Presidential candidate Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) on Sunday reiterated her call for a “full investigation” into the death of financier and alleged sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, who was found dead in federal custody Saturday.
“These survivors deserved justice, they deserved a day in court, they deserved to speak out against this perpetrator, and it is a shame,” Gillibrand said on CBS’ “Face the Nation.”
“I do think there needs to be a full investigation about why he was taken off the suicide watch list; I think it’s a strange decision, given that he attempted suicide once already. I want to know why he was left in a circumstance where suicide was even possible,” she added. “I think it needs a full investigation.”

The registered sex offender’s death Saturday caused widespread speculation and calls for investigations, with the New York Times reportingSunday morning that Epstein was not being monitored in his cell as directed before his death. A law enforcement official said procedures requiring him to be checked every 30 minutes were not being followed.
Attorney General William Barr has said the FBI will investigate the circumstances of Epstein’s death.
