The minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed has asked the general public to disregard the rumours flying round that schools especially higher institutions will be opened on the 7th of September being next month.
This new is believed to have spread wrongly after the meetings held by the heads of different educational boards in Nigeria last week including the NUC and the VCs of different universities.
Then a northern journalist suggested during a newspaper review in NTA international that schools are likely to resume 7th of September since it is the first week of the month. This was a mere suggestions and predicted statement from a TV presenter and wasn't stated by educational boards.
After the meetings, it was only stated that schools are going to definitely resume its normal activities by September but no particular date was fixed then until today.
The minister of Education today has announced the actual date for the resumption of all schools in Nigeria.
This was released in her statement today after a close door meeting with the health minister regarding the precautions to be taken by students when school resumes.
" After the meeting today with the honourable minister of health, it has been decided that schools will surely resume on the 14th of September being the second week of next month. This is because many things are being put into consideration and schools will be give the first week to get everything ready before students start learning as the COVID-19. pandemic is still on rampage in Nigeria and the lives of every students matters to us.
Items like nose masks, constant running water and hand sanitizers need to be available in abundance in all schools before the resumption of on 14th of next month and students enlighten about needs to observe social distancing and avoid cliques in school"
